This lagoon is full of different varieties of fish, and its water has a dark green tint due to the high levels of aquatic vegetation.

CabureTop

The fishing village of Cabure consists of simple homes with local trademark buriti straw roofs. The village is lit only by a generator, which often gives it a mystical feel. Situated on the Preguiças River, the village has some delightful freshwater sites for bathing. Its chalets offer good food and are a good choice for an overnight stay.

MandacaruTop

The biggest attraction of this fishing village is a 54-metre high beacon. This lighthouse offers some of the most amazing views of the park, especially of the dunes, going all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The Preguiças River not only provides shipping access to the area, but also offers a breathtaking panorama of the region via water, through its network of lakes and rivers.

House of Flour and PotteryTop

Located on the banks of the Rio Preguiças, the House of Flour and Pottery is built on original family property and offers the traveller a chance to see and participate in the preparation of cassava four and also in the manufacturing of mud bricks. Both are means of sustenance in the local economy.

Ponta da BrasiliaTop

Ponta da Brasilia is the point where the Preguiças River enters the Atlantic Ocean. Located five hours from the community of Caburé, it is a good place for walking.

Rio CardosaTop

Located about an hour away from Barreirinhas, this river has crystalline water and is surrounded by lush palm trees. In the underbrush, you will see buriti, the palm which is used to cover homes.

Rio PreguicasTop

This winding river of pure, fresh water surrounds the desert until it enters the sea. By taking a Lencois tour by voadeira boats, you will get to experience the local communities living by the water, as well as its islands, dunes and vegetation. The river gets its name from its calm waters (preguiças means lazy). The river enters the Atlantic Ocean at Atins, which is a small fishing colony and the perfect place to find fresh fish and shrimp. The area is surrounded by native vegetation such as coconut and palm trees.

This is the region situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Preguiças River, and has similar landscape to that found in the park, with rolling sheets of sand.

With its numerous streams, the Parnaiba Delta is a unique landscape that has ensured the survival of many plant and animal species.

The Canary IslandTop

Situated in Parnaiba’s delta region, the island is famous for its deserted beaches and sand dunes. A large and diverse variety of local fauna and flora can be found in the region. Interestingly, the Parnaiba is the world’s only river with an estuary in the open sea, and because of this, there is a tangle of lagoons, banks and islands.
